Welcome.

Hi I'm David. I am a counselor and trauma-informed therapist. I am currently offering online sessions. House calls (Hauraki region), and I also have a space in Waihi that is available on request.

I offer a range of techniques and approaches to support individuals & couples with a variety of presenting issues, some of which are listed below.

I began my journey into therapeutic work in 2010 when I decided I wanted to connect with people, and myself, on a deeper level. I initially gained a bachelor's degree in counseling and furthered my studies into sociology. In more recent years I have upskilled to better support the uniqueness of each client and their circumstances with training in other approaches, including sound therapy, breathwork, and trauma- & somatic-informed approaches. As well as a deep dive into the Internal Family Systems Therapy model.

I have worked as a counselor in schools, as a mental health worker, and as a therapist in private practice. I have worked with clients both face-to-face and by phone/online, ranging from 16 years old to 76.

I live in rural Waikato, New Zealand. I enjoy the beach and love music, reading, and writing.

I have four children ranging from toddler to teen and have been married over 20 years.

My approach to therapy is to help highlight and explore the many aspects of our lives: the stories of our early and present lives, our relationships, hardships, challenges, and how we make sense of and navigate the world. I believe as we explore these aspects with curiosity, compassion, understanding, and challenge, we can access the possibility of change. I offer a non-pathologizing, collaborative approach, working at the client's pace while being attentive to cultural and personal differences.

My goal is to make you feel that all the parts of who you are, are welcome.

$15 - $20 travel fee will be added to house calls further afeild in locations such as Paeroa, katikati, Bowentown and Athenree

I also have a sliding scale, so if there are financial stressors, I am happy to offer lower fees. Which can be discussed on initial communication.
