Counsellor & Therapeutic Coach

 Juan is a counsellor and therapeutic coach who offers an integrated approach that combines the depth of (relationship) counselling with the forward momentum of coaching. He holds a Bachelor of Counselling and a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering, bringing together relational insight, structured thinking, and practical problem-solving in his work with individuals, couples, families, and groups.

Juan’s work recognises that meaningful and sustainable change often requires attention to both where a person or couple has come from and where they are going.

Through counselling, he supports clients and couples to explore past and present experiences, relational patterns, and emotional responses that continue to shape their wellbeing. This process creates understanding, emotional safety, and healing—particularly in areas such as anxiety, stress, grief, relationship challenges, and life transitions.

Alongside this, Juan provides Therapeutic Coaching using a neuro-based approach, helping clients translate insight into action. Grounded in an understanding of nervous system regulation and brain-based behaviour, his coaching focuses on the present and future—supporting clients to clarify goals, strengthen emotional regulation, improve communication, and develop practical strategies for change.

This integration allows clients to move forward without bypassing important therapeutic work, while also avoiding becoming stuck in insight without progress.

Juan draws on evidence-informed modalities including Person-Centred Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and strengths-based practice. He has worked across schools, community organisations, family services, and private practice, supporting individuals and couples to strengthen relationships, rebuild trust, and create healthier patterns of connection.

Clients describe Juan’s style as calm, collaborative, and respectful. He creates a safe, non-judgemental space and views the therapeutic process as a shared journey—one with a clear intention, flexibility along the way, and openness to discovery.

Practising since 2021, Juan is a provisional member of the New Zealand Christian Counsellors Association, works under professional supervision, and is based in Rotorua.
